Garlic is pretty heavy duty shit, right? Apparently there is a whole new underground industry smuggling garlic into the UK. The EU imposes 9.7% duty on garlic imports which is aimed at preventing the Chinese from completely undercutting our European colleagues in Spain and Italy. However there are a number of scams set up to get around this. They have been importing into Norway and then bringing it in to Sweden covertly in lorries. There is now a manhunt for the 2 guys who have done this. Christ, that is pretty serious for a load of garlic.
In itself this is quite interesting. Then I got to thinking what else do people smuggle and found this excellent list of weird things people tried to get on a plane. My favourite is the drugged up monkey although snakes in a bra comes a very close second.
